About Stearns Heritage Golf Course
A wonderful nine hole layout, Stearns Heritage Golf Course has served this former coal company town and region for more than a century. The course goes back to 1920, and the log clubhouse dates back to 1936. The original kidney shaped pool at the club was also constructed in the 1930s as one of just 800 or so WPA pools built during the depression. The second oldest course in Kentucky, Stearns Heritage Golf Course has old school push-up greens, with lots of character and history. The first two holes of this par-35 layout that plays just under 3,000 yards are very memorable. No. 1 is a tight, 215-yard par-3 that will require your best from the get-go. The second is 172 yard, and plays over a pond. The no. 1 handicap hole is another par-3, the 204-yard ninth. The scoring opportunities on this heavily wooded course come on the short par 4s, and the only par-5 on the course, the 470-yard sixth. Stearns Heritage Golf Course does not have a driving range, but it does have a practice putting green. While green fees are very reasonable and the course is open to the public, membership plans are also available.
