Irving Golf Club may be something of a hidden gem in the Dallas metroplex but it s a favorite among those who have  found it. When you make a tee time at this municipal course, you will experience a unique, walkable, links-style layout that features distant views of the Dallas Skyline. The playing field, originally a Brian Ault design known as Twin Wells Golf Club, has benefited greatly from an extensive redesign by Colligan Golf Design in 2019. Though Irving Golf Club s individual holes occupy the same ground as before, each has been changed and the layout has been rerouted. Key aspects of Colligan Golf Design s redesign of Irving Golf Club included improving the drainage system, widening the fairways, inserting many new bunkers, and adding 20 acres of prairie grasses to enhance the definition of the holes and accentuate the open and exposed links character of the layout. The plentiful power lines are also less of a distraction. Irving Golf Club s predominantly flat fairways make for a player-friendly experience where good scoring is possible for all levels of players. However, when the wind comes up, as it often does in Texas, all bets are off. Although a few small ponds come into play during the round at Irving Golf Club, they aren t overly threatening. Some of the bunkers here are perilous indeed. You may be cursing the Irving Golf Club's Scottish elements when your ball comes to rest in one of the steep-faced, flat-bottom bunkers. In true links fashion, the greens invite approach shots played along the ground. Irving Golf Club is a city-owned facility but it is run by a management company. Practice facilities include a full grass range, a chipping area and putting green. A visit to the bar and grill puts a cap on your round. All in all, Irving Golf Club s links-style elements and stunning skyline views make it a municipal standout in the Dallas metroplex golf realm.
