Chevy Chase Country Club is a venerable, championship golf municipal course in Wheeling, Illinois that boasts an avid following of Chicagoland golfers who revel in its beautiful grounds and classic aura. Located 30 miles north of Chicago and 17 miles from O Hare International Airport, the facility, run by the Wheeling Park District, spreads out over 127 acres on a site that is free of housing except along a portion of the perimeter. Chevy Chase Country Club dates back to the mid 1920s when the prolific course designer Tom Bendelow laid out the playing field on predominantly flat ground. In 2002 Bob Lohmann performed a thorough renovation that improved the playing conditions and added more strategic and challenging elements to the game. Thankfully, players still get a little sense of the old time aura at Chevy Chase Country Club. The course boasts lovely mature trees they are especially gorgeous in fall foliage season numerous water hazards, and gentle undulations. It all adds up to an aesthetically pleasing round of golf that presents a fair, manageable and enjoyable challenge for everyone who plays it. It's also a fun course to walk. Chevy Chase Country Club features four regular sets of tee markets quite evenly spaced between 5,174 yards and 6,630 yards, and a set of junior tees that play at 3,258 yards. Though the fairways are wide and the trees are not densely packed together, players must beware of the strategically placed fairway and green side bunkers that are fringed by native fescue grasses. When you have a tee time to play at Chevy Chase Country Club you ll see lots of water features throughout the course, some of which are quite attractive. In most cases, however, the water hazards are not situated in overly threatening positions. Chevy Chase Country Club has a reputation for fine course conditioning. The greens are medium size and only mildly undulating. They roll consistently and are yet another fine feature of this popular public playing field. Practice facilities at Chevy Chase Country Club are limited. There's a putting green but no driving range or short game area. The clubhouse has a golf shop and a restaurant and full bar that typically stays open into the early evening. Don t miss out on a tee time at Chevy Chase Country Club.
