Chicopee Woods Golf Course has been a favorite tee time for North Atlanta golfers of wide-ranging abilities ever since it opened in 1991. This 27-hole facility is conveniently located just a mile from I-985 in Gainesville, Georgia, and about 50 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta. Carved out of forest land, Chicopee Woods Golf Course rambles over picturesque rolling hills in the North Georgia Mountains not far from Lake Sidney Lanier. It ranks as one of the best layouts course architect Denis Griffiths created in his long and distinguished career. Over the years, Chicopee Woods Golf Club has appeared multiple times on Golf Advisor s list of the Top Courses in Georgia. The beautiful tree-lined layout does not have any adjacent holes and it is utterly free of course-side housing. While the three nines are all quite hilly and flow well together, each has its own distinctive characteristics. The original 18 at Chicopee Woods Golf Course consisted of the Village and School nines. The Village is the most traditional of the three. You ll find wide fairways, large greens and no water hazards. The School nine is similarly user-friendly off the tee, but four holes bring water into play. The Mill nine, which was added to Chicopee Woods Golf Course in 2001, is slightly shorter and hillier than the other two nines. Ponds factor into play on a couple of holes, but the highlight hole for long hitters is a potentially drivable, short par-4. The greens on all three nines are varied. Some are elevated, some sit below the level of the fairway. The putting surfaces normally roll at between 9 and 10 on the stimp meter. Chicopee Woods Golf Course features five sets of tee markers that allow players to take the course on from any combination of the nines at between 4,900 yards and 7,040 yards. Practice facilities include a driving range, chipping area with sand bunker, and putting green. The clubhouse has a pro shop and a basic grill/snack area with golf course views.
