About Wolf Creek Golf Course

Golfers in Atlanta have many fine public courses to choose from, but most are located well outside of the city. If you are looking for a tee time within 15 miles of downtown and 10 miles from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Wolf Creek Golf Course fits the bill. This Mike Young design from 2001 immediately earned a reputation as one of the toughest tracks in the Atlanta Metro area, and it is regularly voted the best course near the airport. Although Young did the bulk of his design work in Georgia, traveling golfers may be familiar with his Hacienda Pinilla Golf Course in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. At Wolf Creek Golf Course, Young has created a varied layout on a site that weaves through wetland areas and alternates between flat, low-lying land and terrain that features significant elevation changes. Much of the course boasts a natural look, for while houses are around the playing field, they are largely obscured by mature trees. Four sets of tees stretch this par-72 layout from 5,262 yards to 7,069 yards. The 143 slope rating from the tips suggests the challenge that awaits. Tree-lined playing corridors, a few of which are narrow, set the tone for a round that starts out with alternating par-5 and par-3 holes. The opener, in fact, is the longest hole on the course. You won t come to the first par 4 of the day until the 5th hole. Often wetland areas cross the fairways and thick vegetation looms just wide of the cart path. The par 4s at Wolf Creek Golf Course tend to be tight. On the 5th, the groomed turf is generous off the tee but narrows the closer you get to the green. Wetlands pinch in near the right front of the putting surface. The prettiest hole at Wolf Creek Golf Course is the downhill par-3 14th, which is backdropped by a lake. It s actually one of the holes that gives players a break before the routing comes to a formidable finish with a long par 4 followed by back-to-back par 5s. Though the greens often elicit praise, rest assured that these slick, contoured, elevated putting surfaces fall off at the edges and add to the scoring challenge. Practice facilities include a driving range and a putting green. The renovated clubhouse is home to a golf shop and a snack bar. Wolf Creek Golf Course is one of Atlanta s most conveniently located courses and one that will give golfers of all skill levels a real test. Make your tee time now.
